A Study On The Meta-discourse Of Answering Reports’ Questions By Premier Wen

There are two levels of discourse communicative acts: basic discourse layer andmeta-discourse layer. Basic discourse is the discourse which has propositionalmeaning, and the meta-discourse is the discourse about discourse. Currently theCorpus studied by the academic on meta-discourse is mainly concentrated inacademic papers, and the study of spoken discourse is rather lacking. In this paper, thecorpuses are from the answering reports’questions by Premier Wen Jiabao. we analyzeand study the meta-discourse and investigate the use of oral discourse. There are fourchapters in this paper,and this research is based on the results of previous studies.Meta-discourse are divided into two main categories and seven classes.The firstchapter introduces the research status of political discourse and meta-discourse, thenwe explain the method used in the study and the significance. In the second chapter,we describe the textual functions meta-discourse from words to small sentences.Thischapter emphasizes on comparing the difference between the logical conjunctions andthe textual function markers. In the third chapter,we emphatically introduce themeta-discourse of interpersonal function. We point that the meta-discourse ofinterpersonal function is composed of speech action verbs and Intention verbs in thecorpus of Premier Wen’s speech. And induce the difference between the basic wordsmean with the interpersonal function markers’ mean. At the same time, combining thetheory of subjectivization,the theory of factive verbs and the theory of informationterritory to interpersonal function meta-discourse analysis. We also point thatsubjectivization is one of the important standards to verify interpersonal functionmeta-discourse markers. In otherwise, factive verbs and nonfactive verbs couldbecome the meta-discourses, but contrafactive verbs couldn’t be the meta-discourses.Meanwhile, in order to conform to the politeness principle, speaker will marked theinformation to hearer’s territory even though hearer didn’t know it.This method couldshorten the distance between the two information territory.The last part is theconclusion.We sum up the main points of the full text and points out the shortage ofresearch.
