A Study On Dong Yining’ Poetry And Prose

Dong Yining is one of the "Piling Four" in the early Qing Dynasty, who is an important scholar in Changzhou. Recently, the academic research on the Dong Yining is comparative little, this paper will explore from three aspects in his prose and poems.This paper introduction mainly introduces the research status and work situation of Dong Yining.The first chapter is based on the related document literature then gives a clear outline in Dong Yining’s family, life experience and peregrination. Consequently, his life path and personality characteristics and the influence of life experience in his literature creation will be better truly restored.The second chapter is exploring Dong Yining’s essays from the theory, content and characteristics. Set Dong Yining in an academic background in the late Ming and early Qing dynasty and regional literature then discuss the characteristics and significance of his essays’ theory. This text divides his essays into three categories in biography, gift-preface and travelogue. Then make a detailed analysis of them and summarize that his essays’ characteristic is "tracing to source of Ou and Su", the brushwork is fluent, the emotion is sincere euphemism and language is graceful and mellow.The third chapter is given the detailed discussion in Dong Yining’s poems. His poem theory and essay theory is interlinked. They are all mainly for innovation, against simulation and expressing the temperament. The poems consist of lyric poetries, current event poems, landscape poems, drift poems and reciprocating poems. Dong Yining’s poems admired the dynasty of Han, Wei, Tang, and Song. They are not limited in one patterns and the style of poems is powerful depressed and elegant. And he is a good user in literary quotation, whose elegance words are thought-provoking.
