A great many designers still believe that graphic design is the design of thetwo-dimensional space since entering the new century. They are not aware that the planedesign will appear a new development trend under the background of new era. In fact,everything is changing and developing, including the graphic design. The developing trend ofrelevant “multi-dimensional” graphic design is not the latest formulation As early as the endof last century, plenty of designers has put forward the conception of diversification and“multi-dimensions” for graphic design. This conception has to do with the“multi-dimensional” development. But due to the lack of strong support in the aspect oftheory and subject to the conditions of social conditions at that time, the conception were notaccepted by the designers, thus influencing the innovation and development of graphicdesign.Therefore, it is obvious to notice that the study of the theory of the“multi-dimensional” contemporary graphic design still needs the new theories to enrich andperfect, in order to improve the designer and the audience’s perception of the plane design,thus making the plane design free from traditional two-dimensional space. So some graphicdesigners begin to make bold innovation in the work of graphic design. What’s more, thedesigners try to summarize the characteristics and the methods of the “multi-dimensional”graphic design through the constant attempt and exploration and try to improve the concept ofthe “multi” in the graphic design.Nowadays, along with the increasingly fierce competition in the market performance, thefield of graphic design also expects the huge changes with the rapid development of scienceand technology. More and more enterprises demand the graphic designer makingbreakthrough in the design, advocating the trend of multi-dimensional design form insteadof making graphic design limited in the two-dimensional space. Besides, themulti-dimensional design form becomes the most effective visual expression in the field ofgraphic design at present as well as an important means to enhance the marketcompetitiveness. Therefore, the field of graphic design has ushered in the transform trendfrom two-dimension to many dimensions, namely the trend of diversification. Under this trend, more and more forms of graphic design are tried to breakthrough the limitation of theoriginal "two-dimension" to "multi-dimensional" development, thus forming some novelcreative concepts and expressive techniques.At the same time, we also need to see that themodern graphic design appears serious homogeneity phenomenon along with thedevelopment of science and technology revolution and the increasingly prevalent in digitaltechnology and computer graphics software application, which is worth paying more attentionto. The “multi” in the “multi-dimensional” design does not refer to the number but thediversification of design form and design concept.In addition, people begin to pursue ahigher level of aesthetic demands with the great satisfaction of the material needs in the newperiod. The dull and tedious "two-dimension" can not satisfy people’s emotional appeals tothe new life and new things any more, which requires the designer to have the courage to getrid of the traditional "two-dimensional" restrictions. Therefore, the designers should start fromthe angel of “multi-dimension” and integrate the various kinds of design elements, thuscreating novelty graphic design which can meet the demand of people.Finally, we should keepa kind of equal attitude towards the traditional graphic design and the “multi-dimensional”graphic design. The realization of the “multi-dimension” is not to completely abandon thetraditional two-dimensional design. In practice, the “multi-dimensional” graphic design stillneeds the support of the two-dimensional graphic elements. Therefore, the“multi-dimensional” graphic design may be regarded as the inheritance and development oftraditional graphic design.The multi-dimensions of contemporary graphic design are compared with the moderngraphic design’s simplification."Multi" is not only reflected in the diversity of the elements,technologies, arts, but also is embodied in the breakthrough of the traditional two-dimension,extending the graphic design to "multi-dimensions" on the space and time.It is safe to say thatthe contemporary graphic design is undergoing a great change, a transformation whichabsorbs the contemporary advanced science and technology and the latest design conception.Graphic design is no longer confined to the category of "two-dimension", but has been madeto be combined closely with the human senses and environment through the most advanceddigital technology and printing technology which gradually forms the multi-dimensional development of graphic design. This kind of design increases the dimensions of plane andaffects the development of contemporary graphic design endlessly. In this paper, first of all,the author explains the definitions of graphic design, the “two-dimension” and the“multi-dimensions”. At the same time, the author also analyzes the reasons of the“multi-dimensional” trend in the design according to the characteristics of the new technology,new media’s combination in the new period. In addition, the paper summarizes some graphicdesign methods to achieve the “multi-dimensions”, and thus raising the ponder over the“multi-dimensions” of the graphic design at the end of the paper, which puts forward that the“multi-dimensions” should pay more attention to human nature and attache great importanceto the audience’s emotional appeal, and interactive experience between people and surface andso on. This paper attempts to seek the innovative ways of graphic design’s "multi-dimensions"from different perspectives. In addition, through the analysis of the “multi-dimensional”successful cases at home and abroad in recent years in the field of graphic design, the authorhas summarized some methods which promote the graphic design’s “multi-dimensions”.What’s more, the author expects that this paper can provide some valuable examples andreferences for the relevant research and practice in the field of graphic design.
