| The research takes the new generation of migrant workers in Hangzhou as anexample,by reviewing literature,questionnaire survey and statistic method todiscover the new generation of migrant workers’ characteristic of their social supportand mental health. The study focuses on the problems about their social support andmental health. By exploring factors which lead to these problems, the research tries todiscover the new generation of migrant workers’ requirements and needs, increasetheir social support and improve their mental health.By sorting and combining published literature about social support, mental healthand the new generation of migrant workers, integrating the realistic factors of the newgeneration of migrant workers to make a questionnaire about their basicinformation.The study uses the questionnaire,SSRS and SCL-90to collect255newgeneration of migrant workers’ social support and mental health status data. Handlethese datum with specialized analysis software SPSS11.0to discover and analyzetheir social support conditions and mental health characteristics.Firstly, to discover their social support status and mental health characteristics,the research mainly compares the new generation of migrant workers’ social supportand mental health with the national norm’s, analyzes the difference of their socialsupport and mental health in demographic variables, such as gender, marital status,wage and salary, ages, education. The results show that:1.the overall social support level of the new generation of migrant in Hangzhouis significant lower than the average person, their scores on the whole social support, objective social support,subjective social support and the use ratio of social supportare significant lower than the national norm’s. Their mental health level is lower thanthe national norm’s, significantly. And they have a higher rate ofobsessive-compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity and hostility.2. in Hangzhou, the new generation of migrant workers’ social support presentssignificant differences on marital status, education and ages. But there are nosignificance differences on gender and salary. Their mental health level hassignificance differences on gender, marital status, salary and ages, but not on theeducation.Besides, the research emphasizes on exploring and analyzing the relevancebetween social support and mental health of the new generation of migrant workers.It discovers that:1. The research reports that their whole social support, objective social support,subjective social support have significant negative correlations with the SCL-90. Buttheir use ratio of social support shows no significant correlations with it.2. The whole social support presents significant negative correlation withsomatization, obsessive-compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety,phobia anxiety and psychoticism. The objective social support has a significantnegative correlation with somatization, depression, anxiety, psychoticism. Thesubjective social support has a significant negative correlation with somatization,obsessive-compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, phobia anxiety,paranoid ideation and psychoticism.3. The correlation between the subjective social support and mental health isstronger than it between objective social support and mental health.4. The marital status, gender, support form spouse or lover and support fromneighbor show a significant prediction to the mental health level.Then, the research explores and analyzes how the new generation of migrantworker’s social support affects their mental health with the cognitive theories, roletheories, interpersonal relation theories and self-value theories. The research aims to enrich and expand the area about the new generation of migrant workers’ socialsupport, to solid the research on health mental of them. At last,bases on their socialsupport and mental health characteristic and problems, the research proposes somesuggestions and recommendations. |
