Report On Interpretation Of Chinese Commentation On The2014World Cup Semifinal (Brazil VS German)

The2014FIFA World Cup is regarded as a carnival for the world aswell as Chinese football fans. One of the total64games, the semifinalbetween the host team Brazil and the traditional strong team German hasbeen considered as classic game and caused a great sensation as the resultof the game was rather out of any expectation---the host team wasdefeated by Germany with the ultimate7:1. As one of the football fans,the present author enjoyed the live broadcast and was left deepimpression with the great game. Therefore, she chose the CCTV5livebroadcast as research target to study how to interpret Chinese footballcommentation into English. The main aims and values of the report are toanalyze the language features of Chinese football commentation, probethe characteristics, methods and skills of simultaneous interpretation ofChinese football commentation, and finally accumulate some experiencefor the further study in this field.This report is composed of six chapters. As introductory part, the firstchapter simply explains the task, study purpose and value. Chapter Twodiscusses some aspects of the study object---oral interpretation by givingits definition, characteristics, category as well as the qualifications neededfor a qualified interpreter. Chapter Three simply summarizes the threetypical translation theories, namely, the Skopos theory, theory of formalequivalence and the traditional Chinese translation theory with the purpose to supply theoretical backup. Chapter Four analyzes the languagefeatures of sports news as well as football commentation with examplesso that the readers would have a clear concept with sports language. Inchapter five, with the present author’s own practice in her oraliinterpretation of Chinese football commentation on World Cup semifinal,the present author exemplifies the linguistic features and skills ofinterpretation. As a concluding part, Chapter Six summarizes the reportstudy by pointing out the implications and limitations.As far as interpretation of Chinese football commentation isconcerned, it should be said that it is a field that is not always probed,therefore, there is rare relevant data to be referred to. Seen from thisaspect, this study sets a good example for other to follow for the sake ofperfecting the study in this area. Finally, out of various reasons, thisreport does exist some weak points and the present author wishes thefollowing-up researches would overcome the weakness and promote therelated study.
