A Study Of Adaptation And Selection In TV Simultaneous Interpretation From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

In simultaneous interpretation (SI), the interpreter renders the message in the target language as quickly as he or she can formulate it from the source language, while the source language speaker continuously speaks. Nuremburg Trial, conducted from November1945to August1946, was the first international gathering in which simultaneous interpretation was used. With globalization and advances in science and technology, simultaneous interpretation is more frequently used in TV programs and news broadcasts, attracting more attention from the audience, directors and professional interpreters. In China, TV simultaneous interpretation started later than in Europe, and has become a highlight in the profession, thus deserves further study.Compared with conference interpretation, TV interpretation poses bigger challenges to interpreters with its unique features. Larger audience, more complicated working conditions, more words per minute and higher expectations from the audience all contribute to the difficulties at work. In terms of training, interpreters need to learn not only interpreting skills, but also relevant knowledge and strategies in TV interpretation.Under the framework of eco-translatology, this thesis first explains the principles, standards and laws governing translation. Through the examples of the Grand Slam awarding ceremonies, the author illustrates features and challenges of TV interpretation, and analyzes the coping strategies of the interpreter. By focusing on interpreter’s self-regulation and self-preservation in the ecosystem, the author attempts to offer a new perspective on the study of TV interpretation and contribute to its development.
