A Study Of C-E Simultaneous Interpretation Strategies From The Perspective Of Adaptation Theory

With closer international exchanges,simultaneous interpretation has been active in major conferences.Efficient strategies of simultaneous interpretation can improve the quality of interpretation and relieve pressure of interpreters.Taking adaptation theory as theoretical framework,the thesis analyzes the interpretation of the 19 th CPC National Congress report delivered by Xi Jinping,and studies strategies of choice making and adapting in Chinese-English simultaneous interpretation.Under the guidance of adaptation theory,the thesis studies from communicative context,linguistic context and dynamic adaptability respectively.In communicative context,the thesis focuses on cognitive and emotional factors in mental world,the cultural factors in the social world,the object,theme and occasion in the physical world in detail.In linguistic context,the thesis analyzes cohesion,intertextuality and sequencing.The thesis also analyzes the dynamic adaptation from the temporal dimension and structure.By analyzing examples of the interpretation,the thesis concludes the Chinese-English simultaneous interpretation strategies used in the five scenarios.The five situations are cultural asymmetry,cognitive deficiency,contextual deficiency,the source language containing special emotions and the source language containing features prominently.In these five situations,strategies applied include replacing or discarding cultural images,using rhetorical techniques,developing and supplementing source language information,adding sentence elements or logical words,deleting source language and sentence,adjusting sentence order,cultural object substitution,paraphrasing and so on.The thesis summarizes that choice-making and adaptation strategies can be made according to adaptation theory.And the thesis provides strategies for students majoring in interpreting during simultaneous interpreting practices.At the specific level,it provides references of the choice of adaptation.
