In recent years, with more and more translation professionals are demanded in thesociety, many scholars and researchers are paying much attention to translationteaching. As an important part of language teaching, translation teaching should beattached much importance. However, the current situation of the translation teachingis far from satisfactory. One of the reasons is that there are so many shortcomings inthe traditional teaching method. It is necessary to reflect on the traditional teachingmethod, exploring new teaching method. In this thesis, the author applies theWeb-based interactive teaching method to stimulate students’ interest and improvetheir translation competence in translation. There are two supporting theories to thisresearch, which are Constructive Learning Theory and Collaborative Learning Theory. The objective of the research is to explore the validity and feasibility of theWeb-based interactive teaching method in translation teaching to English majors. There are two research questions to be explored in this study:1) Whether can theWeb-based interactive teaching method arouse students’ interest in translation?2)whether can the Web-based interactive teaching method improve students’ translationcompetence? The study involves61sophomore English majors of two classes from QiluNormal University. Both instructed by the researcher, the two classes were randomlyselected as the EC (Experimental Class) and CC (Controlled Class). In the EC, theWeb-based interactive teaching method was applied. With the help of Internet toolsand through the interaction with their peers and teacher, students took an active part inthe following steps, such as preparation, presentation, discussion and conclusion;while in the CC, the traditional teaching method was applied. There are three parts ofinstruments adopted in this teaching experiment, mainly including two translationcompetence tests, which are the pre-test and post-test, one questionnaire and it wasalso conducted both before and after the experiment, an interview used only for theexperimental class. The results of the questionnaire demonstrate that most students in the Experimental Class hold a positive attitude towards the Web-based interactiveteaching method in their translation classes. Besides, the findings of the researchdemonstrate that Students thought the Web-based interactive teaching method isuseful and helpful for them to improve their translation competence. What’s more, aconclusion can be reached that EC’s students made more progress than CC’s studentsthrough the analysis of the pre-test and the post-test competence tests. It also indicatesthat the Web-based interactive teaching method is complementary for the traditionalteaching method, through its application, learners’ autonomy can be fostered andtheir translation skills can be promoted as well as their communicative competencecan be improved. At last, some possible solutions are put forward for further study. We can drawthe conclusion that the adoption of the Web-based interactive teaching method in thetranslation classes for Chinese English majors is both feasible and beneficial.Consequently, pedagogical implications are provided for the theory and practice ofteaching and learning English translation.
