The Mono-syllabic Tone Of XiZhou Dialect Experimental Study

Xi Zhou located in the north of Da Li, the bai language there as a representative dialect has been studied by many researchers. In order to get a scientific and comprehensive understanding relatively, this thesis studies the tone of Xi Zhou dialect by means of acoustic experiments instead of the traditional speaking-listening method.This thesis composed of four parts.The first part introduces the research methods and procedures of the experiments and the background theory about the experiments.The second part is the phonetic system and the language using of Xi Zhou dialectThe third part is the tone pattern of Xi Zhou dialect. The phonetic data is acquired by the ZOOM HI recording pen and conducted by the sound analysis software—praat, then take the phonetic data from the praat into the Excel and figured out through FO normalization on the basis of LZ-score to get the five degrees of Xi Zhou dialect. The duration pattern of mono-syllable tone of Xi Zhou dialect is T5>T7>T2>T3>T8>T4>T1>T6, the sex has no impact on the tone.The fourth part is the tone’s mixing and the falling tone of Xi Zhou dialect. The tone’s mixing focus on tone44and32,tone33and31,also the tone32,31and33, tone32is easily mixed with the other tone. Tones mixing of Xi Zhou dialect for four reasons: first, the tones itself has the mixing phonetic factor, second, the tones mixing don’t distinguish meaning in the same environment, it’s the most important reason for tones mixing, third, the native speakers there may not think much about this phenomenon, finally, the dialect bilingual environment has been impacted.There are four falling tones in Xi Zhou dialect:super high falling tone, high falling tone, mid falling tone and low falling tone. They are mainly distinguished from the pith. The super high falling tone lies upper limit of the tones’pitch area and the low falling tone in the floor level because of the creaky voice.
