Differences And The Fusion ——The Research On Multicultural Value Tendency Of Fairytales Of "Mu Di" Award In Tai Wan

The "Mu Di" Award was founded by Taiwan’s "Mandarin Daily" in 1995. It’s a professional children literature award, which has become the top award of fairy tales in Taiwan. As a prominent children literature award hosted for nearly 20 years, the "Mu Di" Award evaluation system is influenced by the special historical context and social ideological trends of Taiwanese society. The choice of fairy tale works represents the unique multicultural values of this award.The theory of multiculturalism appeared in USA, Canada, Australia and other countries with immigrated population. Ideas of multiculturalism expressed rights and demands of immigrants. In 90s those ideas were accepted in Taiwan. The children literature award the "Mu Di" award in each point, starting from the award concept to the mechanism of nominating has shown multiculturalism as one of the main values. In this paper we shall apply theory of multiculturalism to explore the basis of "Mu Di" children literature award. After careful reading of the laureates’texts, we consider the "Mu Di" award to have to main characteristics of multiculturalism - difference and fusion.On the one hand, the "Mu Di" Award prefers to choose the fairy tales, where the main character differs from the other characters in the story. In the same time the "Mu Di" Award can "play" with Western aesthetics system and give a preference to the works which express features of local culture. On the other hand, "Mu Di" Award has made an approach to fairy tales subject and artistic techniques through ideas of multiculturalism.In comparison with classical fairy tales, aesthetic standards of the "Mu Di" Award have already become different. In terms of narration, writing style etc. the "Mu Di" Award refers to novel, picture book, prose and other literary forms’writing techniques. Its content embraces every thing, it blends ancient and modern, Chinese and Western, it makes the usual fairy tales’ pattern to broaden its scope.More and more fairy tales with independent thinking, up-to-date topics and features of local culture have a chance to be discovered and promoted. From different sights, the "Mu Di" Award has evidenced its multicultural values. The "Mu Di" Award has given the opportunity for Chinese fairy tale creation to show its diverse beauty.
