In recent years, more and more American students choose to come to China to study, and the number of the students who choose the short study abroad are increasing because of the restricts of time, resource, economy and so on. To explore the intercultural adaption condition of the students come from America. The author put the overseas students adaption ability as the research objects, investing and analyzing their adaption ability of life, study, mentality, and interpersonal communication, to decrease the intercultural communication barriers. This text adopt the ways of document research. Questionnaire survey, open-ended interviews to research, and the specific implementation steps are questionnaire design, the interview outline, sample drawn, statistic analysis. For the withdraw questionnaire, Excel and SPSS18.0are used to analyze the data and the dependency of the research, to make sure the scientific of the research result. Through the questionnaire survey and interview analysis, the author draws the conclusions that:gender, age, Chinese level, major, the time of study abroad and the intercultural experience etc. will effect the process of culture adaption of the overseas students. When the overseas students encounter the cultural adaption obstacles, they will counter the physical and psychological discomfort,and the adaptive speed is also different. In order to let the short-term international students who study in China to get a better cross-cultural adaption from culture collision. The international students have to try to understand cultures and local way of live in which country they have to make efforts to improve their language skills, on the other hand they must understand the real China society through various effective ways. To achieve the purpose, it is not only need the international students to have a positive way of adjustment but also need the teachers and the management department to pay attention for it and make efforts to it. As a mother language teacher to teach foreigners, he is required to have solid teaching skills, rich cultural background knowledge, the sense of thoughts when deal with unexpected problems or situations. In additions, the management department should offer the good service for students study and daily life, offer more convenient environment as much as possible. Although we cannot avoid experiencing culture collision in cross-cultural adaption process, if you face the problem positively, you can find the real possibility of mitigation methods.
