With the continuous development of economy and the accelerating of the globalization process, international trade has been increasingly frequent. The status of the shipping industry is also growing. In the global perspective, it is very necessary to popularize the knowledge of the shipping industry and introduce more maritime English translation texts.Maritime English belongs to scientific English and has some characteristics such as standard language, concise word-using, precise content, formal tone, clear structure, objective statement, strong speciality and practicability. As a result, maritime English translation is different from general English translation. The translator must understand the characteristics of maritime English translation criteria and its specific translation skills.Due to different expression habits and language structures between English and Chinese, in the process of translation, translators need to supplement some necessary words or omit some redundant components according to the needs of semantics, context and syntax, in order to make the translation more natural and in accordance with the Chinese expression habit. Therefore, on the basis of being loyal to the original meanings, the proper use of supplementation and omission can improve the quality of translation. This report discusses supplementation and omission specifically applied to the maritime industry network translation from English to Chinese, and explains the two translation methods. Based on the analysis of a lot of shipping English text, this paper aims to improve translation accuracy and speciality.
