With the deepening of reform and opening, cooperation and information exchanges between China and other countries has become more and more frequent. International Software Cooperation Conference (CHINASOFT), providing an effective communication and lobbying channel to foreign companies and local ones, has being successfully held in Chengdu for ten years. For the purpose of analyzing developing trend of software and information technology service in Chengdu and offering references to market investors and professional researchers, Report on Software and Information Technology Service Development of Chengdu, issued during the CHINASOFT, is one of its essential events. This thesis is a report on the translation of Report on Software and Information Technology Service Development of Chengdu in 2012(the Report). It consists of four chapters. The background and significance of translating the Report is represented in chapter one. Chapter two lays emphasis on Katharina Reiss’ text typology and Hans Vermeer’s Skopos Theory, which form the theoretical framwork for translating the Report. Chapter three focuses on terms and long sentences, describing concerned translating techniques. The last but not the least, chapter four reviews the whole translation process, and discusses how to be a qualified translator.Translation theory derives from practice and in turn guides practice, while practice then enriches translation theory. For translator, challenges and opportunities coexist. To be qualified, one has to be equipped with the ability of combing theory and practice, making best use of every chance, applying theory into practice.
