| China's accession to the WTO gives rise to various forms of financial activities throughout the world.Companies issue annual reports each year in order to establish positive business relationships with investors.As the main channel for investors to know a listed company,annual report truly reflects its operating conditions and major events in the preceding year.Annual report,as a practical writing,is widely used in transnational cooperation.In this case,the translation of annual reports has gained increasing attention by the public.The translation project of C-E translation of the Annual Report of Agricultural Bank of China(2016)that the author participated in is discussed in the practice report.The practice report analyzes text functions and language features of annual reports as well as difficulties encountered in the translation.The translation difficulties fall into linguistic level,cultural level and pragmatic level.The linguistic level includes: translation of financial indicators,polysemy,sentences without subjects as well as long and complex sentences;The cultural level involves the translation of financial product names with Chinese characteristics and abbreviation;The pragmatic level contains the lack of sensitivity to register differences in financial field and the lack of sensitivity to idiomatic expressions.According to Peter Newmark's text typology theory,the annual report falls into the category of the informative text,and the approach of communicative translation is applicable in the translation of informative texts.The practice report aims to put forward corresponding solutions to the above-mentioned translation difficulties under the guidance of the approach of communicative translation,which include shift,paraphrase,division,addition,register equivalence and domestication.Hopefully,the solutions proposed in this report can shed a light on the translation of the annual report. |
