| Idiom is a special form of words in a language. It highly summarizes human’s practical experience in various social activites, which at some point reflects the history and culture of a nation. Both Chinese and Thai idioms have their distinctive characteristics and are closely related with their own cultures. Therefore, it is worth studying them.This paper conducts a comparative research on the Chinese and Thai idioms whose meanings are related with treasure. Specifically speaking, it focuses on those that include the following eight words:qian (money), jin (gold), yin (silver), cai (wealth), bao (treasure), zhu (pearl) and yu (jade).This paper mainly focuses on the number of words of both Chinese and Thai idioms, their classificationsand sources, the similarities and differences of their meanings, etc.Through the comparative study of Sino-Thai idioms, this paper discusses the similarities and differences of Chinese and Thai cultures in terms of their idioms. It is of theoratical significance for the research on Sino-Thai idioms and pratical value for teaching Chinese and Thai language. |
