A Report On The Practice Of News Translation In China Daily

With the high-speed development of economy, Communication between nations is becoming pervasive. As a carrier for international communication, news in English plays an important role in daily life. News translation between English and Chinese can help Chinese readers who can only understand Chinese learn news collected and reported in English. It can help Chinese readers enlarge their scope of audio-visual, advance the quality and quantity of the information they got, increase their knowledge.English news translation is a kind of high aging and strength work. The news in target language must reflect the main characteristics of news writing. It requires that the translation should live up to news logic, transmit the news information accurately in the first place and accord with the expression of news features and requirements.From March 2014 to August 2014, the author of this thesis participates in the China Daily INews Spring Internship Camp as a trainee in the center of the compilation and translation center. China Daily INews website is a new brand founded by the group of China Daily. Until now, the staff do English-Chinese translation work only. The original texts come from foreign newspapers or magazines as well as the articles directly written by domestic people. During the period of this practice, the author’s task is to translate the English articles published in the China Daily INews webesite into Chinese for Chinese readers to read.This study is a report on the translation of English news with three parts:a translation report, English news and their translated and proofread versions. This study aims at analyzing key and difficult points in translation of English news on China Daily in the internship so as to put forward several views and strategies in translation. It is hoped that these translation strategies and methods could help with translators in translating English news.
