Translation Of English News Report

The source texts are the latest news selected from The Atlantic.The news reports are mainly about the China-US trade war.Based on English news translation practice,this report has analyzed key points and difficulties of the translation,and further put forward some target strategies.This translation practice report first summarizes the main content of translation materials,and then analyzes their linguistic characteristics which include lexical,sentential and textual features.Lexical features covers the frequent use of professional terms,abbreviations,midget words and culture-loaded words;Sentential features include the extensive use of direct quotations,passive voice,and modifiers,with more long sentences than short sentences.Textual features comprise textual cohesion,semantic coherence and intentionality.On this basis,this study further elaborates on the influence of target readers,cultural differences and the translator's standpoint on translation,so as to explore the key points and difficulties encountered: inaccurate words translation,long sentences with complicated structures and discourse styles hard to convey.According to the understanding of the text,the lexical translation should be based on the context,the structures of long and difficult sentences need to be sorted out clearly,and the textual styles should be conveyed as accurate as possible by omitting conjunctions and restructuring the text.Through the above research,I realized that news translation is not only a simple conversion between languages,but also involves the understanding of context,a good command of source language and target language and the ontology analysis of language.This translation practice report is an exploration of the translation techniques and methods of news texts,hoping to provide some references for news translators.
