Zhang Qian’s two visits to Western Regions during the Western Han Dynasty opened up a route running from Chang’an to the Western Regions. Then the route was gradually formed and grew up throughout the Han Dynasty, which contributed to the unification of the Western Regions and the Central Plains. Later, the ancient route was stretched to the Central Asia, and even the Mediterranean, thus famous Silk Road has been formed. This ancient route was not only a channel for goods circulation, but also a bridge for cultural exchanges between Eastern and Western Civilizations. It is a symbol of peace and friendship as well as cooperation and development.Nowadays, although the Silk Road has lost its former brilliance, it leaves us significant spiritual and cultural assets. Collected Papers on Historical Archaeology of Huang Wenbi reproduced the prosperity of Silk Road and provided an important reference for Silk Road researches. Under the background of building Silk Road Economic Belt, Xinjiang’s geographical advantages are highlighted in the cooperation between China and Central Asian countries. Past is future, we can draw lessons from ancient Silk Road and Xinjiang’s history, striving to raise the friendly and cooperative relations with Eurasian countries to a new level.Based on the translations of Terrain of Xinjiang in Ancient and Modern Times, Zhang Qian’s Route toward Western Regions and Changes in Routes of the Han Dynasty toward Western Regions, this report developed from translation preparation, translation goal, translation difficulties and theoretical application under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence Theory. The ultimate goal of this report is to summarize both experience and lessons so as to guide later practice.
