Modal verb is a comparatively weak point in Chinese research as well as a difficult point for foreign students who learn Chinese as a second language. This study has been conducted for making foreign students learn Modal verbs faster and better, increasing the efficiency of teaching Chinese as a second language and mastering the Chinese language. Furthermore this study analyzes some common problems that foreign students face while learning Chinese language. It sums up the patterns of mistakes and causes behind those mistakes. It also suggests useful techniques for teaching Chinese as a second language.This study compares and contrasts the model verbs "Can" and "let" in both Chinese and Arabic languages. It tries to find similarities and differences of meanings, usage, grammar, functions of these model verbs "Can" and "let", and analyze them. This study will especially help Arab students in learning about these errors of model verbs in Chinese language and reasons behind the errors. It will also provide them with teaching material and suggestions which will help them in teaching.The first part is introduction, it expatiates the motive and significance of this paper; the research method, research scope and corpus sources.The second part is literature review. It is a briefing on the research achievements of different works on Chinese and Arabic verb definition and part of speech, the position of verb in the sentence, and detailed comparison and analysis of "can" and "let", usually connected to a verb.The third part is discussion and analysis of the collected data. It summarizes several types of errors by comparison of a large number of Chinese Arabic examples from the collected data, and from the Chinese Arabic word order and semantic differences to deeply analyze the causes of all kinds of errors.The fourth part is conclusion which from the introduction to analysis of the errors, summed up the study.
