The utilization rate of modern Chinese modal adverb "Ke" in our spoken language is very high,and it is one of the adverbs that commonly used in our daily life.Many scholars focus on its study of Chinese ontology research,but few researches based on the second language teaching.Modal adverb "Ke" is an adverb that the Chinese learners must master.It has a very high error rates among students,but there exits a well regulated way that the Chinese learners can master it well.The high error rates may be caused by the teachers,teaching,teaching materials,and students' learning strategies.This paper is concerned with the modal adverb “ke”,according to the errors made by the foreign students in Inter-language Corpus,we designed a quiz about the modal adverb “Ke” to test the foreign students in Shanghai International Studies University.We want to know the students' practical ability in using the modal adverb "Ke".We will also study on teaching syllabus,some relevant Chinese books,and some reference books often used by Chinese teachers.We want to summarize the errors made by the students and to find the teaching problems on this language point.Then,on the basis of the investigation,we will carry out teaching and post-test.Finally,we will come up with some useful methods on how to teach this language point.This paper is divided into five parts:In the first part,we will generalize the achievements and deficiencies of the research about modal adverb “Ke” based on Chinese ontology and Second language teaching.We will present the significance of our study,the research methods and the corpus used in this paper.In the second part,we will list the distributions,the semantic and syntactic characteristics,the pragmatic functions about modal adverb “Ke” firstly.Then we will investigate on the syllabus for teaching Chinese as a foreign language and some typical Chinese intensive reading and oral textbooks,We focus on studying the annotation of modal adverb ”Ke” in the textbooks to explore the characteristics and the shortages of the grammar syllabus and the textbooks.According to what we will have explored,we will bring forwards the teaching methods.In the third part,on the basis of the questionnaire and the corpus,we will summarize the errors of the modal adverb "Ke" made by the Chinese learners and analyze the causes of errors,In the fourth part,we will use some useful teaching methods to teach the modal adverb “Ke” and examine its actual effect by post-test.Then we summarize the teaching methods.The fifth part is the conclusion part,we will generalize the errors and its reason on modal adverb “Ke” made by the Chinese learners.We will also summarize the teaching constructions.Then we will explain the defects of this paper.
