With the improvement of people’s wellbeing and social medical level in recent decades, understanding and introducing medical techniques has become crucial. Borrowing and translating latest medical achievements from abroad facilitates medical institutions and their medical teams’ grasping the medical science trends for the well-grounded service of the nation. Translating obstetric texts is clinically valuable but according to retrieved academic resources it is rarely discussed on the basis of translation practice. This report relates Newmark’s communicative translation approach to medical translation, discusses its features by case study, and outlines some of the common translation techniques including change of part speech, change of voice, addition, omission and the splitting of long and complex sentences. By this, the report intends to enrich the managing of a translation project and the case study of the author’s translation practice.
