This translation project report is based upon the translation practice of the sourcetext, namely, the first and the twelfth chapters of the book Success in English Teaching.The first chapter mainly states the basic principles of English teaching and keyproblems to which should be paid attention in English teaching; the twelfth chapterreviews the development of English teaching and puts forward several methods toimprove the professional skills of in-service teachers. The translation of the source textbelongs to the scholarly translation, which is a kind of non-literary translation, and thesource text belongs to the informative text, which is appropriate to adopt thecommunicative translation principle as guidance for its E-C translation. This reportfocuses on the analysis of whether the communicative translation principle could beapplied to the E-C translation of scholarly texts or not, how to solve those problems andwhat translation techniques are used in the process of translation under the guidance ofthe communicative translation principle. In the process of writing this report, ways likeusing and analyzing abundant examples, finding and reading several relevant documentsare used to elaborate that the communicative translation principle can be the guidance ofthe E-C translation of scholarly texts.The whole report will be divided into five parts. The first part is an introduction tothe project, which includes the background of the text and the introduction to the sourcetext. The second part is the description of the translation process, which includespreparation, time arrangement and proofreading. The third part briefly states thedefinition of the communicative translation principles and its guiding significance to theE-C translation of scholarly text. The fourth part lists several examples to analyze theproblem-solving process and those translation techniques used in the process under the guidance of the communicative translation principle. The last part is the conclusion ofthis report, which summarizes the author’s personal experience and enlightenmentgained from the translation project.
