With the development of society, communication between people has become increasingly frequent and has transcended national borders. The understanding, approaching and inclusion of foreign cultures have come to be the mainstream of globalization. In this context, translation on literature should not just stay on the layer of transforming words, but also should take its cultural background into consideration. This thesis has discussed the importance of flexibility in literary translation by comparing the three Chinese translated versions of Botchan by Soseki Natsume from the perspective of culture. Only by applying meaning translation correctly and appropriately can the translated version convey the ideas of original work and be alike in spirit with the original work. |
