This is a report on a translating task, which involves the translation of the texts of Shanxi Museum, including subtitles and exhibition-related materials. Museums play an important role in modern life. They not only enrich the cultural lives of people but also provide a channel for transmitting Chinese time-honored history and glorious culture. Therefore, the quality of the translation has an impact on the intercultural communication. Shanxi boasts abundant tourist resources and Shanxi Museum is the largest unit for culture relic protection. The translation of materials of Shanxi Museum is a significant way to disseminate Shanxi culture.The report is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is a brief introduction of the translation project, which is made up of the background, the goal and the significance of the project as well as the structure of the report. Chapter Two illustrates the description of this project and translating process which includes the preparing phase, the working phase and the revising phase. The next three chapters respectively discuss translation problems and strategies at lexical, syntactical and textual levels. The last chapter is a summary of this report, consisting of some experience and lessons learned from this translating project. |
