Quartzite was one of the main materials to make stone tools in Paleolithic Age, which played a crucial role in industry of stone. In some area and time, quartzite became a main choice of stone of prehistoric human. The research on the use model of quartzite contributes to indicate the social behaviors of prehistoric human. The midstream of the Yellow River is about from Togtoh County of Inner Mongolia to Jiumengjin (Peach Blossom Valley of Xingyang) in Zhengzhou of Henan Province, which is passing the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Shanxi Province, Shaanxi Province and Henan Province. Through the field work and excavation, about 110 sites of the Paleolithic Age are found. From the stone types, most are the quartzite. From the discovery of the research, the stratum of the midstream of the Yellow River contains rich quartzite.Under the guide of concept of "operation chain", this paper takes the stone manufacture of quartzite in the sites of early, mid and late stage of the midstream of the Yellow River as research object, and through the comparison between quartzite and flint, quartz of selection, tablet, process, type and function in making tools, verifies the important stage of quartzite in making, analyzes the use models of quartzite in different ages of prehistoric human in the midstream of the Yellow River. And this can also reflect the differences of social behaviors of human in different periods under the use model of quartzite and prove the exiting and meaning of "model of single-raw-material-source".
