The translation of tourism texts is under the influence of the factors including language, culture and translators. Much attention should be paid to the equivalence of function and style between the original and the target texts, rather than that of form. Moreover, the translation of Chinese-English tourism texts depends on readers’habit and the features of English texts. Other strategies can be used too, such as addition, word extension, abbreviation, reconstruction of sentences to convey the information effectively to accomplish the function of propaganda and guidance. In recent years, with the deeper communication and wider cooperation between the international community and China, a great stride has been made in tourism industry of Shanxi Province and the number of foreign tourists has increased. With regard to translation work, most of the 5A scenic sites have presented some high-quality translation. However, there are still a large amount of translation material to be improved because of the improper acts, which have impeded the criterion of translation activity, the promotion of tourism culture in Shanxi Province, the image elevation of local tourism sites and the communication between the east and the west. Besides, Some examples of mistranslation in current translation still exist and the possible causes will be proposed. This thesis, therefore, guided by Skopostheorie, summarizes the differences between Chinese and English tourism texts and explores the translation strategies in tourism texts with the view of inter-cultural communication.
