An Analysis Of Englinese In E-C Translation

The present thesis is a report on the translation of The Spirit of the People:An Analysis of English Mind, written by Ford Madox Ford the English novelist, essayist and editor. The book was published in 1906 and divided into six parts. The book is a panoramic examination of the national disposition of the English people from many perspectives including the formation of the nation, the political and historical background, the social culture, the religious faiths in England and law. The book not only supplies readers a new view of the English people, it also provides them a new way of looking at their own people.There are many special difficulties in translating the book into Chinese. The present report addresses the influence of the original on the style of the translated target language. In the present case, it is a tendency on the part of the translator to use English-styled Chinese, or Englinese in translation.This translation report on Englinese are divided into five parts. The first part is a brief introduction of this report, including the background and significance of the inquiry into Englinese, a description of Englinese as a common phenomenon in English-Chinese translation, and the overall structure of the report. The Second part shows the phenomenon of Englinese in different categories in translation. The third part analyses the reasons of Englinese. The fourth part suggests the strategies of avoiding Englinese in spite of the fact that it seems partially justifiable. The fifth part provides the conclusion of the foregoing analysis.
