In the context of globalization, buildding the national image is very important.national image film is the country’s external communication process as a means of self-making, excellent national image can effectively assist a country to better conductforeign affairs activities in the international arena.Actually, the key point to improvethe national image by image film lies in how to effectively tell the story a to theinternational public well, and the story adopt which narrative strategy. The paper isoriginated from narrative theory. chinese、american and Japanese image film as theresearch sample, we research their each nattative mode. Through comparative study andfound that the problems of image films and then to build our national image film ’srecommendations accordingly and promotion strategies.This paper consists of six parts. The first part is an introduction, we made aninterpretation to the research background, the research Status and significance of thepaper; The second part is the "how to define the national image film ’s narrativetheory”, Further we clarify the relationship between the national image, national imagefilm and and narratologies. National image film has a strong ideological atmosphere,national image is a way of self-making. The narratologies provides proper context ofthe national image film research. The third part is to learn from the story perspertive ofnarratologies, including the plot, characters, environments, and supporting narrativesymbols, we analyse the national image film of Chinese、American and Japanese fromseveral aspects. Since China`s is typical oriental culture, Western culture is therepresentative of the United States, and a greater impact in Japan by Chinese andWestern cultures, so this paper chose these three countries were analyzed. In the fourthpart, we resolve promo film of China, the United States and Japan from the discourselevel. And the discourse level includes the narrator, narrative perspective and narrativetimes. The fifth part is a comprehensive overview of the three coutries`image film`snarrative features, and on the basis of reference,we make some suggestions for Chineseimage film. Chinese national image film that is to be rooted in the story of the creation, cleverly selected characters, good use of supplementary narrative symbols, and takecare of the audience emotional aspects and delivery channels to complete the our imagefilm`s narrative framework. The last part of the paper is a summary of the contents ofthis paper, we can make use of narrative theory to produce image films, and thus bettershape and build the national image.
