Speech and thought will be presented in different ways in fiction. The author creates characters, drives the plot and adjusts the narrative rhythm by different speech and thought presentation. In the process of translating fictions, translators should actively deal with speech and thought presentation. This thesis will discuss fiction translation with the target text of "The Sea Between" as the object from the perspective of narratology. It will center on speech and thought presentation to see whether the translation has successfully represented the narrative features.A great deal of speech and thought presentation appears in "The Sea Between", which gives a challenge to the translator. In addition to speech and thought presentation, the narratives features should be focused on. Thus, it will better reproduce the original style.Upon examples selected from translation and previous studies of speech and thought presentation, this thesis will analyze the translation from English to Chinese of direct speech, indirect speech and free direct speech. Two translation strategies of formal correspondence and formal conversion are employed to express the specific effects of the original on the basis of being faithful to the original style. It is not only to translate the source text, but also to determine the appropriate form of speech and thought presentation. Then narrative features and artistic effects are recreated. From the analysis of examples, it is found that the research of narrative features of speech and thought presentation will be helpful for fiction translation.
