A Study Of The Problem On "Temporary Couples" In Migrant Workers From The Perspective Of Ethics

In recent years, the phenomenon emerges that migrant workers live together becoming “temporary couples”. This phenomenon exists as common, but extraordinary problem which arouses concern from all walks of life. Based on the viewpoint of ethics, this paper tries to explore this problem and the solution to it, in order to reduce the occurrence of this phenomenon.“Temporary couples” in migrant workers are married workers with original farmer identity, who live together as couples with other person, since they are far away from their legal spouse for a long period of time. The fundamental characters are as follows. At least one of a “temporary couple” is married, and has no intention to divorce with his or her original spouse to maintain the original family nominally. Their purpose to live as couples with another person is to satisfy their mutual needs physically and psychologically. Moreover, such kind of relationship is temporary and feeble. Emotionally, both of a “temporary couple” concerns little of their temporary husband or wife from the bottom of their hearts. The root sources for this phenomenon are the unreasonable factors and inappropriate deeds of system design, corporation management, social control and personalities. Behind these sources there hide the problem of morality deficiency. To be more specific, the system deviates for a certain extent from the ethical principle of fair and just, failing to protect the equal right and freedom of the migration of migrant workers; management of corporation ignores the humanitarianism as a basic principle of management; the society is in shortage of the moral responsibility to give a hand to migrant workers who usually need help; some migrant workers are alienated from the ethical demands of marriage and family, due to their weak responsibility to their own families.The phenomenon of “temporary couples” in migrant workers exerts a detrimental influence on the society considerably, poses a threat to family stability and harmony, jeopardizes the moral concept of family, distorts social ethical principles, and consequently undermines the stability and harmony of the entire society. As a result, effective measures have to be taken to cope with this disturbing problem. Several solutions to this are exist in the sense of morality. The authority ought to better their system design to increase moral care to the migrant workers, fulfilling the equality and liberty in their system construction. Humanitarianism has to be stick to in the management of company, which guarantees the living and spirit of migrant workers, guiding and monitoring them to become respectable persons. The public should shoulder the ethical responsibility for migrant workers, enhance spiritual construction and law publication, offering assistance to these persons, and have rational assessments of the “temporary couples” in these groups, helping them to correct this immoral deed. Migrant workers themselves need to follow the spiritual demand of family, maintain their relationship with their legal spouse, to be more responsible to their own families, and control their physical and psychological needs by lifting their spirits.
