With the perspective of Violence Aesthetics, the paper analyzes the creative practice of John Woo. Through the interpretation and analysis of his movie, the author explores the ethical spirit reflected by Violence Aesthetics and its influence upon eastern and western movie creation and provides references for Chinese movies’better going global. This article is made up of five parts:the first part mainly discusses the implication and development of ’violence’,’violent movies’and’violence aesthetics’.The second part analyzes ethical spirit reflected by violence aesthetics of John Woo, who is influenced by the eastern and western culture:his religious belief, his oriental violence complex influenced by the traditional chivalrous culture and his hero complex. So the author attempts to discuss John Woo’s violence aesthetics’origin, value orientation and connotation. The third part analyzes the continuity and development of his violence aesthetics after he went to Hollywood mirrored in the three aspects of the continuation of form beauty, the fusion of the chivalrous spirit and the heroic complex with Hollywood spirit and the movie theme’s extension. The fourth part mainly discusses the semiotic expression of John Woo’s violence aesthetics from the three perspectives of Woo’s upgraded lens’symbolic presentation, the pigeon’ s symbolic implication and the poetic scene deliberately created as his unique audio-visual language features to serve his ethical spirit. The fifth part summarizes the implication of John Woo’s violence aesthetics and the focus is the theory’s effect and its success story on cross culture communication. The guidance value is discussed for Chinese movie and television creation towards the integration of Chinese and Western aesthetic style, maintaining Chinese national characteristics and adapting to the world audience’s aesthetic purport, which is the true meaning of the movie’s intercultural communication.This paper mainly applies the literature analysis method and theory analysis method. Through the collection and collation of John Woo’s text data and video data concerned, the author, on the basis of previous research results, puts forward his own views and opinions on John Woo violence aesthetics, discusses the success and enlightenment of his aesthetics of violence.Through the study of John Woo’s aesthetics of violence, its great influence upon the worldwide commercial movie’s creation, the expression of specific audiovisual language foundation, that the aesthetics of violence has profound China continuation of traditional culture facing the direction of the world film development and expansion, the unique poetic, symbol the John Woo, the author attempts to explore the research value of the violence aesthetics theory and its practical implication for Chinese film and television’ s intercultural communication.
