The Effect Of Brief Exposures In Predicting Group Cohesiveness

Objective: brief exposure(brief exposures) refers to People can make reliable and accurate judgments of others based on very limited samples of behavior. Stillman(2014) found that short exposure can not only judge the individual characteristics, but also can predict the group cohesion. However, whether brief exposure information types should affect the judgment of group cohesion? Based on this, we take the design of static images(experiment 1) and footage(experiment 2, 3) two types of information, to investigate whether brief exposure in the prediction of group cohesion has a different effect, and to explore the effect of footage in examining brief exposure on different types of group( rock band, basketball team), if there is the same effect on predicting interdisciplinary group cohesion level.Methods: In study 1, predicting group cohesiveness based on the brief static pictures of rock bands. In study 2, judgments through 10 seconds dynamic videos predicted rock band group cohesion. In study 3, on the basis of study 2, we expand the objects of study to group cohesiveness of basketball team, inspection by short 10 seconds video images can predict team cohesion level, and then forecasts institute results associated with the score on the actual game of basketball.The results: study 1 found that there was no significant correlation between judgment of group cohesion through static pictures of brief exposure, and quantity of the rock band on the network click; Study 2 found that there was significant correlation between judgment of group cohesion on brief exposure of image video, and quantity of the rock band on the network click; Study 3 found that there was significant correlation between the judgment of group cohesion about short exposure of basketball team, and basketball team score in the actual game.Results show that the exposure of information and the information type was associated with the validity of predicting the group cohesion. In another words, the type of information about brief exposure should effect the effectiveness of predicting group cohesion in brief exposure: the quantity of static pictures information in brief exposure is too short and single, which could not predict group cohesion level in the field of all types, short video can be dynamically accurate judgment of the different types, in the field of group cohesion level(rock band and basketball team).
