Since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, campus novels have been in a condition of tributary, due to which they weren’t given sufficient attention. Except that several experts and professors have done some researches on some of its productions or individual campus novelists, all the other studies on campus novels go on with the form of the graduation papers of postgraduates. University campus is a relatively closed system space, therefore, campus novels, which depict university campus lives, have its relatively independent thinking and language systems. While these systems present different characteristics according to different eras. Based on the theories of “Narrative Discourse Paradigm”, this thesis aims to give a comprehensive analysis to those comparatively influential campus novels since the foundation of our country, as well as to lead a rheological analysis to different campus novels in different times carrying with different features from three systematical perspectives of the cognitive, narrative and stylistic levels. The first chapter mainly focuses on discussing the variation of the cognitive paradigm that campus novelists carry in the aspects of love affection and character images in the novels. Campus novels in the“Seventeen Years” times were all printed the stigmas of distinctive political ideology, no matter the description of love or the shaping of the character images. By contrast, campus novels in the 1980 s to 1990 smanifested more on the revival of the idea of humanitarianism. After the1990 s, especially in the new millennium, the depiction of love and the shaping of characters’ images in campus novels were mainly under the influence of consumerism culture and unconsciously revealed the nihilism hidden in the deep minds of their authors. The second chapter analyzes the rheological features of campus novels’ narrative modes, which expanding from unitary to multi-variant, from the aspects of narrative perspectives and narrative structures of campus novels in different times. Campus novels in the “Seventeen Years” times, corresponding to its social environment were unified whether in narrative perspectives and narrative structures. However, the narrative perspectives and narrative structures of campus novels demonstrated a trend of multi-variant when it came to the 1980 s. The third chapter concretely dissects the verbal features of campus novels in different times. Affected by the then political environment and the author’s self-ideology, campus novels in the “Seventeen Years” times were filled with the traces of deep political ideology. In the 1980 s to 1990 s, as a result of the completely vanish of repression and restrain opposed by “the Cultural Revolution”,writers one after another expressed their internal feelings with emotional vocabularies. Therefore, campus novels in this period displayed evident lyrical characteristics in their languages. Influenced by factors such as the specific social environment and the author’s personal temperament, thelyricism of campus novels can be divided into two categories of the straightforward and the restrained. The language variation of campus novels at the turn of the new century mainly manifested in the popularity of networking and carnivalized language. Meanwhile, the interspersing use of numerous special symbols, homophonic figures, English alphabet and some vulgarized words made campus novels catch more era characteristics.
