In Song Dynasty, China’s economic and cultural development reaches the peak, especially the development of manufacturing industry. Inherited from the tradition of the Tang and Five Dynasties, the porcelain industry in Song Dynasty is remarkably improved and six famous porcelain families-the Ding Kiln, the Yaozhou Kiln, the Jun Kiln and the Yaozhou Kiln in the north, the Longquan Kiln, the Jingdezhen Kiln in the south-are formed. The products of these kilns are sold worldwide and the commodity economy is prosperous.The celadon and black glaze porcelain unearthed from Maoqiao Site in western Shanghai provides us a significant resource to study local economy and society.This article is a study on the Song porcelain of Maoqiao Site. I will try to reveal the characteristic of craft and form of these porcelain by observing,classifying and describing their form, body, glaze and decoration. I will analyzing the details of the craft and compare them to models of related kilns to study their producing area.This article consists of five chapters.The first chapter is a summary of former related research of celadon and black glaze porcelain in Song Dynasty. The research methods are also introduced in this article. In the second chapter,we introduce the excavation of Maoqiao Site and the background of these unearthed porcelain.In the third chapter, we classify, observe and analyze these porcelain after studying their form, body, glaze and decoration. In the fourth chapter, we generalize the characteristic of these porcelain and compare them to the porcelain of related kiln. In the fifth chapter, we summarize these porcelain and the local economy they reflect.
