During the periods of Song and Jin dynasties, central empires and circumjacent ethnic minorities exchange their culture, economy and politics in high frequency. They are also the periods of cultural integration and development in China. As one of the important regions in China, Henan province is a place of cultural communication. Therefore, it plays an important role in Chinese long history. As one of the traditional utensils, porcelain contains a special culture of Chinese nation. Kiln, producing porcelains, also receives much concern. The paper will focus on researching kiln sites of Henan in periods of Song and Jin dynasties.The text is composed of three parts, introduction, body and conclusion. The body has 5 chapters.Introduction includes background and significance of the subject, fields and methods of the study and review of academic history.Chapter 1 mainly discusses the principal kiln sites and products in periods of Song and Jin dynasties. Most kiln sites of Henan province in the periods spread in the center, west and north of the province. A few distribute in southern Henan. This chapter lays a foundation for below.Chapter 2 analyzes the geographic location of kiln sites. According to the analysis, the distribution state of that in Henan will be clear. In order to make a macro research on the distribution of kiln site in Henan, it also analyzes the height, gradient and distance from river of kiln site under the support of GIS to fully understand the regularities of distribution.Chapter 3 introduces different kiln furniture and its service condition in the periods. It shows that they not only have times characteristics of the broad environment but also have their unique local style. Based on the reports of exploration and investigation, kiln furniture can be classified into three major types, loading and burning tools, producing porcelain tools and temperature tools.Chapter 4 recommends the features of kiln in the periods. Most kilns of Henan are half pour flame kilns. Because of rich mine stocking in Central Plains and lack of wood in Song dynasty, people use mine as a fuel properly which can low the producing cost. Therefore, kiln factories in the Yellow River basin start to use mine as a fuel in this period which leads to a series changes of the structure of kiln.Chapter 5 describes the development of kiln industry of Henan in the periods. Comparing to other periods before Song and Jin dynasties, kiln industry has been make a bigger progress in scale, technology or other factors in the periods. It makes a critical difference in the development of Chinese ancient traditional kiln industry.
