Hehuang area have been playing very important political and military role in Chinese history. Central governments throughout the ages have been paying much attention to administrate and develop these places. During the Western Han period, Royal court started a wave of immigration from Central China to strengthen the borders. A large mainland population moving here changed wasteland into cultivation, strengthened the frontier and expanded the land. Besides above-mentioned political and military measures, it is very necessary for the central government to develop cultural education as soon as possible. In order to satisfy educational requirement of local people and the central places immigrants,cultivate a large number of cultural and political talents, set up the good social atmosphere, especially establish the correct political philosophy ideas which conform to and serve the government’s purpose, the royal court had to encourage and spread Confucian education in Hehuang area. Up to Ming and Qing dynasties, the Confucian education of these places had formed the system and scale, at the same time, its development degree had been quite mature. At first, the paper presents the significance of topic selection and the historical documents in which are employed. Second, it analyzes the important position of Hehuang area in the history and the reason why central governments throughout the ages pay abundant attention here. Third, it makes a more detailed description about Confucianism development at Hehuang area in the several important periods among the whole history. The main purpose of the thesis is to count and sort out the Confucianism education information of these places since Ming and Qing dynasties, including listing all the education forms and education institutions here, what’s more, their numbers and scales. In the last chapter, the thesis focuses on the academies of Hehuang area to research in detail their names and quantity, time and place of creation, status of the promoters and other information by using local chronicles, inscriptions, collected works and other historical records. Based on those materials, the paper makes a deep analysis on time and space features of academy distribution in this region. The nature of academy is explored combining with status of the promoters and their intentions under the social background then. The main purpose of this paper is to conduct careful investigation, confirmation and statistics on Confucianism development at Hehuang area, to sort out their venation and to discuss some unresolved problems. Based on these research results above, this paper strives to display and restore complete picture of Confucian education in Hehuang area during Ming and Qing dynasties.
