The Study Of Parallel Texts Of Introduction To Scenic Spots And Its Application In C-E Translation

Since China carried out the policy of the reform and opening to the outside world, tourism in China has been increasingly developing. However, the English translation of tourist texts is still not satisfying and the quality of English translation is far from reaching the western tourists’satisfaction. The problem and difficulty of the English translation of introduction to Chinese scenic spots have aroused many scholars’attention.In this paper, four practical introduction texts of scenic spots are investigated from the perspective of parallel text:"The Fairytale Land Jiuzhai Valley" and "Tianmen Mountain" in China, "Yellowstone National Park" and "The Grand Canyon" in America. The paper analyzes the differences between Chinese and English parallel texts, and also tries to apply the English parallel text and the Function Plus Loyalty Theory of Christian Nord as the guidance to improve the translation of introduction to "Tianmen Mountain".The paper investigates the parallel texts from three different perspectives:discourse, text and culture. The research arrives at the conclusion that some disparities in culture and thought pattern exist in Chinese and English introduction texts of scenic spots, which will directly affect the understanding of translation with little awareness of the disparities.
