The early Tang dynasty is an important stage for the history of Chinese phonetics, phonetic research ofthis period is of great importance for understanding changes and establishing the history of Chinese phonetics. There are plenty of materials available, but in comparison the traditional materials including poetry, verses, rhyming dictionary and extraterritorial diaphone, rhyming in epigraphic rhymes is neglected. It has lots of advantage, including specific time and place, strong authenticity, and it’s also close to the actual pronunciation. There is plenty of rhyming in epigraphic rhymes materials has value to research.This paper collects epitaphs of book the tang dynasty epitaph assembly, from 618A.D to 741A.D. The totals of 2184 epitaphs are collected. Among them,1987 epitaphs are available and valuable. After lots work of arrangement, we gain the following discoverys.Firstly, the rhyming rules of the epitaph are less strict than rules in guangyun.Secondly, rhyming in epigraphic rhymes truly reflected the actual pronunciation, including the merger of ZhiZhiZhi categories and Wei category, Jia category and Zhi category, Tai category and DuiDai categories, You category and YU category, some of the second tone changes to the third tone as well.
