This paper is a report on the translation of book Ancient Sichuan:Treasures from a Lost Civilization (Chapter One and Chapter Two). Complied by eight international scholars, the book Ancient Sichuan:Treasures from a Lost Civilization introduces archaeological discoveries and excavations of Sanxingdui Site in Sichuan Province, and presents the current religious rites and civilization as well. The original text translated by the author is composed by Chapter One and Chapter Two of the book, which is mainly on the introduction of artworks of bronze, jade and stone.In this paper, the author analyzes the original text with the guidance of Text Typology for the original text enjoys special text features, aiming at laying a sound foundation for selecting proper translation strategies and methods. The author also analyzes specific examples in order to illuminate the guidance role that the theory played in the completion of the translation project. The paper on one hand is aimed to describe and conclude the executing process of the translation project, and on the other hand, it is hoped to provide certain experience for the translation of such text.Text Typology was proposed by Katharina Reiss in the early 1970s. It is a basic theory which focuses on translation criticism and evaluation and which is widely used in the discussion of the general relationship between different texts and translation strategies. By analyzing the theory and specific examples, the author hopes to provide some revelation and reference for the research of the guidance role that Text Typology played in the translation of cultural relic tourism text, giving rise to further researches about this field.
