Jeremy Bentham was the first person who treats "Utilitarianism" as a philosophical noun, and comprehensively and systematically expounded it. Bentham’s "the maximum happiness principle of the most people" was always discussed and argued in the academic circle since it was proposed. The principle has a far-reaching influence in different areas including philosophy, ethics and law. Bentham was well-known by people as ethicists, and the main reason is that his "utilitarian principle" had a tremendous impact on the ethics. Bentham’s “utilitarian principle” idea was first published on "the government sheet theory" in 1776, and was elaborated and defended in "Introduction to the principles of morals and legislation”. By contrast, the other opposite theories was briefly criticism by him. How to exactly illustrate the Bentham’s "utilitarian principle" in this paper? It will be interpreted as following. First, from the viewpoint of relationship between the "principle of utilitarianism" and "happiness principle", we can brief explain the conversation process of the conception of Bentham’s "utilitarian principle". Secondly, as a utilitarian principle of the effective cause of action "happy" and "painful" to conduct a comprehensive analysis, including four of pleasure and pain as well as binding or sources of study and investigate the value of different types of pleasure and pain. Finally, the relationship between "personal happiness" and "social well-being" in the "utilitarian principle" will be discussed in this paper. This article will have some comments on Bentham’s utilitarianism happiness, and the basic foundation based on the interpretation of these two books, and also inferred to some other literatures and books.
