Thesis On The Similarities And Differences Of Ruan And Liuqin

By exploring the similarities and differences between Ruan and Liuqin, this paper employs research methodologies like comparative studies, case studies, literature review and introspection to probe deeply into the historical origins, shapes and materials, notation schemes, pitch range and timbre and expression of musical language of these two instruments. This paper also uses two case studies, ‘Expression of Emotion on Grasslands’ and ‘the Sword’ to further explore the similarities between them and irreplaceable features and charms of both instruments.There are three parts in this paper, and they are on the origin and evolution of Ruan and Liuqin in history and their functions in a band, their general similarities and differences, and their similarities and differences in performance with case studies of two pieces of music. We hope that with my research and conclusion, more musicians, researchers and amateurs will play these two instruments with a thorough and clear understanding.
