Wooden house is one of the most important scene in landscape painting. It is not only the main constituent elements for creation, but also the sole creator’s soul residence. It is the ancient Chinese painters’ pursuit to present the infinite space and scene in limited paints. So the aesthetic value of wooden house in traditional Chinese landscape paintings lies not only in itself, but in leading the viewers get into large space to realize the unique mood of the screen. Song and Yuan Dynasty are the key periods of traditional Chinese landscape paintings. Composition design, landscape architectural language, object extraction and the pursuit of artistic conception all reached its peak in this periods. Wooden house developed with the economy development and society transformation.In such an environment, the depiction and performance of wooden house in traditional Chinese landscape paintings is more deeper and richer.This dissertation focuses on landscape paintings of Song and Yuan Dynasty, especially the artistic work of Four Famous Prosers, Li Cheng, Fan Kuan, Guo Xi in the northern Song dynasty and studies the aesthetic pursuit and the profound meanings of wooden house in landscape paintings by analysis performance type, construction of space form, locations and surrounding environment of wooden house. First of all, we can define the wooden house in landscape paintings and compare with wooden house in ruler paintings. We can summarize three types of performances in landscape paintings and analysis the aesthetic value they performed. Secondly, we can conclude three representation forms and explore the impact of research created by the picture of the composition to the mood of building wooden house in the landscape space by analyzing building space of the wooden house in the landscape paintings. Once again, we can sum up the scene around the building layout and its relationship with the surrounding scenery by analyzing the objective impact of traditional Chinese geomantic culture, scholar-bureaucrat and landscape image of trip or reside created via wooden house in the picture. Moreover, the thoughts of Confucianism and Taoism-the philosophical pillars of Chinese culture, have built a profound impact on the landscape of the wooden house. Confucianism “ceremonial rites and music”, Taoist “Yi”, “harmony between the heaven and human”, has also built a profound impact on it. Eventually, I explored the influence on future generations exerted by the wooden house image and aesthetic pursuit of Song and Yuan landscape painting.This topic take wooden house as the breakthrough point and studies from the aesthetic perspective landscape painting. Through this topic research, we can have abundant and profound understanding of the performance of wooden house in Song dynasty landscape paintings, and we can rich the research area of landscape scenery, and the topic research can also bring beneficialenlightenment for the creation of contemporary landscape paintings.
