The main target of this translation program is the fifth and sixth chapters of Chinese Culturology. The author of this book is Prof. Qin Deqing of GXNU. The main part of this book is as follows, The Construction of Chinese Culturology, Cultural Evolution Process, Regional Cultural Pattern, National Cultural System and Structure of Cultural Type. The fifth and sixth chapter of this book is the first half of Cultural Evolution Process. These two chapters focus on the initial stage of China’s and Chinese cultural history. China’s natural and environmental condition, as well as the origin of Chinese nation, is the main content of these two chapters. It is clear that this part is very important for the whole translation work of the book. The first part of this report is an introduction and analysis of the fifth and sixth chapters of the book. The preparations before translation and theoretical foundation can be regarded as the pavement for the case analysis, which is the important part of this report. There are mainly four directions in the case analysis, and all of them are the typical difficulties that must be solved during the process of translation, namely culture and translation, the translation of culturology terms, the translation of classical quotations, and the translation of bibliography.Through analysis, the author reaches the following conclusions:Culture affects translation in two different ways, respectively language and non-language. In the former one, the difference between English and Chinese, between classical Chinese and vernacular Chinese, and between different literary styles all can affect the translation process in a great degree. While in the latter one, the difference between histories, geographic environment, and national psychologies of the two countries can also affect the translation process. The translation problem of culture-loaded words could be solved with the methods of transliteration, free translation and the combination of transliteration and free translation. While you are dealing with the quotations, you should first of all look for the parallel texts. You should learn from the parallel texts to understand why the sentence has to be translated like that. Then there are several translation methods for the translation problem, such as literal translation, translation into imperative sentences, translation into several sentences, translation into judgment sentences and so on. As to the translation of bibliography, the writer thought that every translator should pay attention to the differences between Chinese reference format and Western reference format. Because the translation is aimed for the reader, so the translation should be in line with the readers writing habits. Finally, the writer learned that, through this translation project, there is still a lot of theoretical knowledge for me to study and it is also necessary for me to gain more practical experience. The writer will definitely seek further development on this subject.
