The arrival of the period of social transition in China, and the speeding up of urbanization, lead to the production of a large number of left-behind children, studies have found that left-behind children exist many social adaptation difficulties, such as interpersonal difficulties, self-doubt, irregularities and so on, therefore, the social adaptation problem of left-behind children should arouse our enough attention. Social adaptation is not only a process of individual socialization and personalization, but also a process of learning, mastering skills and following the social norms, and it’s also a process of individual’s personality formation and development (Nie Yangang,2010). A large number of studies show that the social support from important others will impact children and adolescents’mental health and social adaptation, social support could significantly predict children’s academic adaptation, psychological adaptation and maladaptive behaviors, etc. Resilience is a personal quality which can let one rapidly recover from adversity (Connor & Davidson,2003).Resilience will develop better if one gets more social support, then it can promote one’s better social adaptation, so left-behind children’s social support is likely via resilience to affect their social adaptation. This research focuses on the relationship among social support, resilience and social adaptation on left-behind children. Data were collected by means of questionnaires of Social Support Questionnaires, Ego-resilience Questionnaires and Adolescents’Social Adjustment Questionnaires from 1110 left-behind children in grade four, five, six of primary school and junior high school students from Jingxi county of Guangxi, Suining county, dongkou county Zhijiang city of Hunan. The major findings were as follows:1. The social support scores, resilience scores and social adjustment scores of left-behind children were lower than that of non left-behind children.2. Whether the level of social support, resilience or social adjustment Junior middle school students were higher than that of elementary school students; Mother is the most important social support source for left-behind children, mother out for work is the most unfavorable for left-behind children’s resilience and social adaptation development; Parents should strengthen the contact with the left-behind children; City left-behind children’s level of social support, resilience and social adjustment were higher than that of rural left-behind children.3. Social support was the significantly positive predictor for positive adjustment and resilience, and was the significantly negative predictor for negative adjustment.4. Resilience was the significantly positive predictor for positive adjustment, and was the significantly negative predictor for negative adjustment.5. Resilience partially mediated the relationship between social support and positive adjustment; social support not only can directly affect the positive adjustment, but also can through resilience indirectly affect the positive adjustment.
