A Reflective Research Report On The Interpretation Of The Lecture-Tourism In Cape Verde

With the rapid development of its economy China begins to emerge as a major power worldwide. The economic prosperity produces more material and spiritual needs. The Chinese are more and more curious about the outside world, so they are eager to travel abroad and to experience other cultures. This boosts its foreign exchange, and the relations between China and other countries are getting closer. However, any intercultural exchange is impossible if they could not understand the language of one another. Thus we begin to see more frequent application of translation and interpretation in various fields and occasions from state visits and international conferences to business negotiations and academic lectures.Qiongzhou University held a lecture for the juniors majoring in English. The lecture, aimed to enable the students to learn more about the culture and tourism of Cape Verde. It was given by Waldir Soares, a Cape Verdean student of Qiongzhou University. The author interpreted the whole lecture and took it as an example to illustrate the problems in the task, finding out the reasons for the demerits, providing solutions, and pointing out the direction for future endeavors.Unlike most of the MTI students’ lecture interpretation, the author’s practice is an E-C interpretation instead of a C-E one. Therefore, the author’s interpretation is mostly idiomatically and grammatically correct for he is a native speaker of Chinese. The main problems lie in the mistranslation and leaky translation.The author analyzed the reasons for the shortcomings from different perspectives or at various levels. Furthermore, group with some theories put forward by some famous interpreters and the ideas from his supervisors, he attempted to provide some solutions to the problems found in his performance hoping that his problems, his solutions and his understanding of interpreting can benefit other interpreters.The thesis consists of the following six parts:The first part is a general introduction to the task and the research objective. The second is the source text analysis. The third describes the pre-task preparation. The fourth is mainly about the problems and assessment. The fifth attempts to find out the reasons for the problems and to provide solutions to the problems. And the sixth points out the direction for future endeavors followed by a conclusion.
