Since the publication of Chinese Textbook, the first of its kind aimed at international students in 1958,TCSL textbooks have developed for 60 years.Since textbooks play an important role in teaching,a good TCSL textbook benefits students a lot and enables teachers to get twice the result with half the effort.Texts,as the main body of a textbook, are the most important factor to access the reasonableness and effectiveness of the textbook. This thesis combines theories of TCSL textbook compilation and Skierso's textbook assessment model with the author's own teaching experience in the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Verde, where two textbooks written in Portuguese-Learn Chinese with me and Elite Chinese are used to make a contrastive study of the two text books.Firstly, comparison will be made in terms of text layout, topic, legibility, cultural project, and language to find out their advantages and defects. Then through questionnaires to local students and teachers in this Confucius Institute, and interviews with some teachers, the users' specific feelings are obtained, with advantages and disadvantages of the teaching material analyzed. On the whole, both textbooks have their own strengths and can satisfy the needs of teaching but still needs improving in some aspects, for example, choosing topics students like and enhancing cultural comparison and so on.Finally, based on the contrastive analysis and comparison and the results from the questionnaire, suggestions are given for improving the arrangement of the texts, topic selection, readability and cultural items,as well as for teaching in order to achieve better teaching results in Cape Verde.
