Tibetan opera shows a distinctive regional feature mainly for Tibetan’s unique natural environment, customs and religious belief. In my article,Tibetan opera mainly refers to eight traditional Tibetan repertoires, which are Princess Wencheng,Prince Nor-bzang,Maiden Vgro-bzang-mo,Maiden Gzugs-kyi-nyi-ma,Brothers Don-yod and Don-grub,Prince Dri-med-kun-idan,Maiden Snang-sa and Pad-ma-vod-vbar.Tales from Tibetan opera are mostly drawn from folk tales, history, legends, Buddhist scriptures and social customs. There has been much research on their translation, text collation and etc., however, only few scholars have noticed the fairy tale color in them. This paper is divided into four chapters. In the first chapter, the author analyzes on two types of fairy tale figures, that are the sublime incarnation and the typical case of ugliness. The second chapter attempts to reveal the expression means of personification, hyperbole, grotesque and deformation and how they make tales from traditional Tibetan opera showing a strong sense of fantasy. The third chapter discusses the traditional Tibetan story has a fairy-style narration.
