Critical Theory Studies Of Jack Zipps’ Fairy Tales

Jack Zipps’ s critical theory of fairy tales is not only a new critical extension of the realization of Western Marxist critical theory in the special category of fairy tales,but also a supplement and development of the critical theory and cultural evolution of the Frankfurt School.Therefore,based on Jack Zipps’ s existing theoretical translations,it explores the generative context,theoretical composition,critical practice and theoretical value of his fairy tale critical thought,which has important academic value and theoretical significance for contemporary fairy tale theory research and postmodern children’s literature criticism.The thesis mainly designs six parts and five chapters.The introduction section aims to reveal the reasons for the selection of the topic of this paper,expound the research purpose and significance of fairy tale criticism,sort out the research perspectives and discourse logic of relevant theories at home and abroad,and outline the research ideas,theoretical frameworks and innovations of the paper.The first chapter explores the ideological background and academic basis of Zipps’ s fairy tale criticism.First,it analyzes Adorno’s theory of "cultural industry",especially his critical ideas of "commodification and ideology" of culture,and analyze the influence of this thought on Qi’s fairy tale theory;Secondly,it discusses the absorption of Qi’s fairy tale theory to the utopian concept in Bloch’s "hope" philosophy;Thirdly,it discusses the infection of the Horkheimer’s social "critical theory" of Qi’s fairy tale criticism theory.The second chapter analyzes the core concepts and theoretical characteristics of Zipps’ fairy tale criticism.This part mainly defines and distinguishes three groups of core concepts for constructing Qi’s fairy tale criticism theory;clarifies the historical evolution and logical relationship between each group of concepts;This paper discusses the critical characteristics of Qi’s fairy tale theory from three aspects: cultural critical path,social critical thinking and historical critical method.In the end,Zipes put forward that starting from the critical theory of the Frankfurt School,he introduced many concepts of popular culture criticism into the field of fairy tale literature,and constructed an important point of view of the criticism theory of fairy tales full of critical consciousness.The third chapter discusses the inner and outer dimensions of Zipps’ s fairy tale criticism theory.This part discusses from the multi-dimensional perspective of socio-political-cultural research,the criticism direction and research dimension of Qi’s fairy tale theory.Mainly expounds Zipps’ s point of view of using fairy tale fantasy to break through magic spells and re-confirm the revolutionary potential and subversive power of fantasy;analyzes Zipps from the perspective of political criticism to reveal the metaphorical expression of power and ideological nature in fairy tale "curse",highlighting the social and critical dimensions of power and industrialization criticism in Qi’s fairy tale theory.The fourth chapter interprets the critical practice of Zipps’ fairy tale theory.Because the criticism practice of Zipps’ fairy tale theory not only focuses on the specific text analysis inside the fairy tale,but also takes into account the objective reality outside the fairy tale,it involves a variety of text forms.Therefore,this chapter analyzes the specific practice of Qipus’ s fairy tale criticism theory in the multi-text form with the critical texts involved in Qi’s chapters,in order to present the critical originality of Qipus’ s fairy tale criticism.These critical practices include reflections on Tolkien’s monograph on the poetics of fairy tales;evaluations of Bettelheim’s psychoanalytic methods;and criticisms of Disney’s fairy tale films.These criticisms involve the interpretation of the utopian fantasy of fairy tales,the thinking on the literary and psychological meanings of fairy tales,and the criticism of fairy tale culture and industry.The fifth chapter discusses the value and enlightenment of Zipps’ fairy tale criticism.Zipps’ s fairy tale criticism theory is an important achievement of western fairy tale research,which is of great help to enrich the academic outlook of contemporary fairy tale research.This chapter comprehensively analyzes the theoretical characteristics and value of Zipps’ fairy tale criticism,discusses the enlightenment and significance of this theory to the development of contemporary fairy tales,as well as its possibility and applicability in the construction of Chinese fairy tale theory and criticism system.
