This paper researches Jianghu Poets in the late Southern Song Dynasty from a non-poetry-group perspective. As a social group rather than a literary school,’Jianghu Poets’is defined by their social identity. This group, as an important part of the poetry world in late Southern Song Dynasty, consists of the lower bureaucratic and non-bureaucratic scholars. The paper is divided into five chapters. The first three chapters study the places about the Jianghu Poets, exploring their relationships, mentality and features by their associations in Liangzhe, Jiangxi and Fujian provinces. In order to present the overall appearance of poetry world in the Jianghu area, the author also investigates poets who are recorded little in history and ignored in previous studies. The fourth chapter studies the Jianghu Poetry from a macro and poetry-world perspective, analyzes common themes of their poetry and the combination ways of their poetry images. The author also combs and concludes the characteristics of Jianghu Poetry briefly. The fifth chapter studies the poetry concept of Jianghu Poets by listing their poetry theories and summarizing their consensus, analyzing the connotation of the so-called’Xingqing’advocated by them and combing their views of poetry genre and poetry history, rather than studies their poetry theories as a poetry group. It appears that the author studies two different topics in the first four chapters and the fifth chapter. But in fact they are both included in the perspective of’Literature and geography’and’lower middle class status’. The associations and mentality discussed in the first three chapters are the reasons of convergence shown in themes and using of images of their poetry(Chapter Ⅳ) and relative uniformity of their poetry theories (Chapter Ⅴ).In short, this paper tries to present the associations, status and appearance of Jianghu poet group in the late Southern Song Dynasty from a macro and geographical perspective, rather than as poetry school shown in previous studies. The author endeavor to achieve this by summarizing the consensus of this group and analyzing internal and external reasons.
