A Report On Chinese Translation Of Rethinking Development (Excerpts)

With the rapid development of global economy, the environmental and social problems caused by energy consumption are becoming more and more serious. Therefore, countries around the world are actively exploring a sustainable economic model to promote a sound development of human society. Guided by the scientific development concept, China’s economy is on the way to a healthy development. However, the long-lasting unscientific development model has brought a huge impact on social environment and human health and it is difficult to solve the problems fundamentally in a short period. China is now in a critical period of revitalizing the Chinese nation, and thereby, we have to learn from foreign development experience and promote scientific and sustainable development for China’s economy. Rethinking Development embraces all the essays in the 2nd International Conference on Gross National Happiness. On the conference, scholars and government representatives proposed diverse opinions and feasible plans for sustainable development of human society. Therefore, it is necessary to provide the translation for more scholars and decision-makers to grasp the academic pioneer of "sustainable development concept", so as to make sure that the economic and social development follow sustainable development road, that the gross national happiness is improved and that the revitalization of Chinese nation is realized.Based on the translation of Rethinking Development (excerpts), the report shows the task flow and case analysis of the translation experience in detail. First, a brief introduction of the task background and the text is produced. Then, the type of version is determined and a proper translation strategy is selected to handle the text under corresponding translational theoretical guidance. After that, the problems encountered in the translation process are elaborated in morphology level and syntax level. Finally, the shortcomings of the translation practice are summarized and practical suggestions are provided for future translation work.By summarizing the translation experience of Rethinking Development, the author hopes to make a contribution to the translation study of English argumentative style and give some enlightenment to other translators by the experience. Moreover, the author hopes to gain some translational skills through the translation experience, deepen the understanding of translational theories and develop the applying ability of translational skills.
